The US Navy CPO Shirt – a classic among outdoor shirts.
A sailor's life has always been harsh. Their clothing, too, had to adapt to the harshest weather. Over the years, specific shapes and materials became established in the navy.
The 1943 CPO Shirt is one of those garments that first appeared in the US Navy. Both the cut and the material, developed in the 1930s, have been modified only slightly over the years. For our version, we chose an authentic cut from the 1940s.
It has two large chest pockets and offers great freedom of movement.
It was originally made of thick wool. It is made of moleskin, also sometimes called English leather, which is a heavy cotton satin brushed on one side. Moleskin is a fabric that is very commonly found among workwear because it is very durable. The warp is usually made of a thick twisted thread while the weft is made of a softer thread. After weaving, the reverse side of the fabric is brushed, which gives it a soft feel reminiscent of suede.
